The prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, was literally brought to a standstill last Friday as Five Star Music front man, Kcee and his label mate, Harrysong leading other entertainers lighted up the 4th edition of the Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards which held amid pomp at the place.
It was a gathering of the who is who in the nation’s political circle, entertainment and the business community. But besides the speeches, awards presentation and razzmatazz that pervaded the glamorous event, the night was ignited by the electrifying performances by top Nigerian music acts.
Setting the tone for the night was Olumide who gave an epic rendition of the nation’s national anthem. After which the famous Sharp band came on stage to serenade the audience with sonorous tunes from the classics, Jazz, hiphop, blues, highlife, reggae and tungba. But the atmosphere was charged when ‘Reggae Blues’ crooner, Harrysong took the floor.
He held the likes of Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole and other dignitaries spell-bound with his energetic performance. Alongside the music and dance came the cocktail, which complimented the excitement attached to the frenzy flowing from the sonorous rhythm that oozed from the array of eclectic musical performances. After some presentation of awards to the recipients, TV presenter, Helen Paul, came on stage to reel out some rib-cracking jokes.
Her performance was complimented by that of rising singer, Finest who reeled off a mind-blowing performance, laced with mouth-gaping steps from a dance group that accompanied him to the stage. Equally, X3M act, Simi did not disappoint the audience as she thrilled them with an exhilarating rendition of her single, ‘Jamb Question’ among others. Though some eye-brows were raised following her ‘too simple’ fashion statement, the fast rising female act still killed it, as she got even the men and women of the 60s on their feet, swaying from side to side to her performance.
However, after more comical displays by the event comperes, Helen Paul and Yomi Owope, Five Star Music henchman, Kcee dazzled the audience with his usual stunning looks. He got virtually all the guests on their feet with his banging and evergreen ‘Limpopo.’ The likes of actress Doris Simeon, Maleke, Cossy Orjiakor, Princess Chineke, Annette Cookey, and even the dignitaries present could not help but take to the floor, singing and dancing alongside the ‘Limpopo’ singer.
