HP is in the process of reinventing itself. The company has slipped to second place in the worldwide PC market, and its shipments are on the decline, according to research firm IDC. In a bid to address those troubles, HP on April 5 announced a notebook called the Spectre, the first new model to carry the newly designed HP Inc. logo. The Spectre is designed for PC buyers who want a sleek computer with high-end features. HP has dubbed the machine the "world's thinnest laptop," but it's no slouch on power with processor options that go up to the Intel Core i7 CPU with 8GB of onboard memory. The combination of features that include a trackpad, a good selection of ports and a 13-inch display makes this notebook appealing on multiple levels. But all of those high-end features ensure that the HP Spectre carries a hefty price tag. That would appear to be a risky market approach for a company that is dealing with declining PC shipments. However, for buyers who don't want to spend extra for a top-of-the line model, HP's also offering three new lower cost Envy laptop models. With the Spectre notebook, HP seeks to demonstrate that it's still a leader in PC design and can produce models that appeal to a broad range of customer needs.
