Popular rappers, Jay-Z and Yo Gotti, have sued 2 Mississippi prison officials on behalf of 29 inmates over reports that they did nothing to prevent the violence that has caused the death of 5 prisoners in the last two weeks.

Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Greenville, Mississippi, saying because “these deaths are a direct result of Mississippi’s utter disregard for the people it's incarcerated and their constitutional rights.”

Alex, on behalf of Jay-Z and Yo Gotti, penned down a letter to Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and DOC Commissoner Pelicia Hall, saying they were “prepared to pursue all potential avenues to obtain relief for the people living in Mississippi’s prisons and their families.”

The letter also revealed that the deaths were also caused by the understaffing and neglect at Mississippi’s prisons.

Denorris Howell, 36, was the most recent prisoner to be murdered in Mississipi, after he was found before 3 am in his cell oat Parchman Farm on January 3, covered in blood with a neck wound.

Prisoners Walter Gates, 25 and Roosevelt Holliman, 32, were also murdered at Parchman. Holliman was found fatally stabbed.
