In a recent interview, Sound Sultan (born Olarewaju Fasasi) opened up on the rumour about his exit from the music industry and other issues. Excerpt: There is a report that you are planning to give room for some young artistes under your label and so you won’t be releasing any song for a while. At what point in time did you take this 'unpopular' but weighty decision? I don't know where that rumour emanated from but in all sincerity, I am not taking a break from singing. I am still singing and I am still managing artistes on my label. But what is happening to you after you latest dancehall release? everybody on Naija Nija's label is working and so I am also working. Don't forget we are taking Headgone to Cinemas outside Nigeria. Is it true that your single, Natural Something was your personal experience? (Laughs) Not at all. It is all about women and I am trying to address my male fans to try as much as they can to take care of women irrespective of their status or class because women are wonderful and special beings. It is a natural thing for a man to provide for a woman. We should not tamper with that law of nature. A man must spend for his wife, mother, sisters and daughters. Just as you sang, you are not a casanova but you like woman... Yes I am not a Casanova but I like women because they are sights to behold. I have also come to terms with the fact that I can’t have them all and a correct woman is a proper representation of every woman best attributes. Baba Dee your brother played a great role in your career, aside his support, who else is instrumental to your success in Nigeria's music industry? God is my backbone and I attribute my success to him alone.
You are one devoted Muslim who many says uphold the tenets of Islam, how do you marry this with your career as an entertainer? It is all about discipline. Sometimes, we are not perfect but the simple things I maintain- I don't drink and don't smoke so it keeps me purified to an extent so my prayers can go on between works. You have succeeded in maintaining your look over the years, what is the secret behind your ever-youthful look? All glory to God and I am also a sportsman. You are still relevant in the industry. You co-own a clothing line with your brother, how far with it? Naija Ninjas' clothing is a bit seasonal, because we have to concentrate on the record label, and the new television and movie production outfit we just commenced. Tell us about your TV production? What is distinct about this because we have other TV and movie productions doing similar things? It is coming from the same people that have birthed ideas that shook the nation. Nigerians should expect something distinctively different from us. You can see what we came out with in Headgone. You are into so many things; do you really have time for your family? Yes I do. In fact, my family comes first and after that my career and other things follow. I have a studio at home so I work from home often. You can trust me, this is not affecting my home. How do you handle fame since fame intoxicates? Fame has since been a thing that has grown on me so I am use to it. I have it at the back of my mind from time to time that life is vanity hence, I remind myself always. Fame will intoxicate you if you want it to intoxicate you. Don’t you sometimes get pissed off by some of your fans excesses? I have come to understand that I have a billion first impressions to make right, so I should never get tired of doing the same thing over and over again. Though not easy, I have come to terms with the fact that I must accept their excesses. Can you share with me your most embarrassing moment as a celebrity? I don’t have any Let's talk about your relationship with 2Face, you are so close to him and you are one of his groom’s men. For how long have you being friends? Some people stated you are a bit pompous and at times arrogant unlike your friend 2face who many stated is humble. How true is this assertion? Whoever uttered such statement definitely doesn’t know me. I don't need to tell you about myself, maybe you ask people around me and they will tell you more about me. How did you come about your stage name? It is my siblings' idea because people stated I am the king of sounds of different genre.
