Terkimbi Ikyange
Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange says he is the speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, despite his impeachment by his colleagues on Tuesday.
Famzn News learned that 22 out of 30 members of the House impeached the Speaker Ikyange, his deputy, Mrs. James Okefe and the Majority Leader, Benjamin Adanyi, for alleged abuse of office.
Ikyange said his impeachment was fraudulently done by the House, which relied on Rule No. 16 (2) to end Ikyange’s reign as speaker.
He said the House Rule only vests the power to reconvene the Assembly, which was adjourned to August 15, on him and the deputy speaker – under his directive.
The motion for the Speaker’s impeachment and that of other principal officers was moved by Richard Ujege (Konshisha state constituency) and seconded by Anthony Ogbu (Ado state constituency).
