ASUP
Ibadan Polytechnic branch of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), on Monday began an indefinite strike following the failure of the state government to pay them their outstanding salaries. The union’s scribe, Mr. Akande Adekunle, while speaking with newsmen, stated members of the union have no option than to go on strike saying they have been working with empty stomachs as government has failed to pay the five months salary it owed them. Adekunle who appealed to well-meaning individuals to prevail on the government to pay their salaries, stated ASUP members have been experiencing irregularity in payment of their salaries since 2014, a situation he described as not palatable to members as they do not have any other source of income. “Most if not all our members have been finding it difficult to meet our obligations to our family members, we are therefore calling on well meaning Nigerians to intervene in this and urge the government to pay us our salaries as we do not want our members to die before we start voicing out our plight,” he stated.
