The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has ordered all police commands and formations to stop the use of commercial vehicles for operations and patrol duties.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, in Abuja on Thursday.
The statement said that the directive had been circulated to all police formations and commands across the country.
It explained that the IGP’s decision was not unconnected with regular complaints by members of the public, adding that there were enormous negative consequences associated with such practices by the police.
The statement warned that abuse of the directive by any police unit would attract severe sanctions.
