It turned out to be a good week for Honda as the new Civic Sedan received the Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, following the desired 2016 North American Car of the Year award.
(IIHS) gave the newly-designed compact car a top rating of "Good" in the five crash test modes, including the small overlap frontal crash test.
The safety organization added that the 2016 Civic achieved a "Superior" rating in frontal crash prevention when equipped with the Honda Sensing suite (standard on the Touring trim, optionally elsewhere) of safety and driver-assist technologies, which include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and collision mitigation braking.
All Civic Sedans are equipped with standard Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, 4-channel ABS with Brake Assist, rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring and LATCH child seat mounting system.
Aside from the sedan, Honda's 10th-gen Civic lineup will eventually include a coupe, a five-door hatch and, for the first time ever for the U.S.-market, a Civic Type-R version.
