President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take steps and remedy complaints of electoral malpractices arising from the conduct of the governorship election in some states of the federation. Ayokunle called for transparent re-run election in Imo State, adding that though there were some alleged violations of electoral rules, INEC was given a clean bill of health, as he insisted that it conducted a credible poll. This, he said, has given Nigeria a better name in the international community, adding that the electoral umpire deserves national recognition. Speaking on the one-week 102nd Annual Session of the Baptist Convention holding in Obinze, Owerri West council area of Imo State, from April 18- 23, Dr. Ayokunle also gave kudos to law enforcement agents for a job well done and for reducing electoral frauds throughout the nation. The Reverend also congratulating the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the polls. Rev. Ayokunle enjoined him to gird his loins and fight corruption, unemployment, erratic power supply, insecurity and bad roads to a standstill. He didn't forget outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan; he hailed him for making possible credible elections which he stated appears unprecedented in the nation's history, noting that the President would forever be remembered for such a worthy legacy. The NBC President who gave the theme of this year's convention as "Moving Forward, Working and Praying for Peace and Progress," stated that God led the church to the theme in view of the raging insecurity ravaging the country, especially the insurgency in the North East. Rev. Ayokunle commended Governor Rochas Okorocha for returning some schools belonging to the church for effective management and urged other states governors to emulate him by returning post primary schools to their original mission bodies for qualitative education.
