Thugs suspected to be cultists have kidnapped a personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission serving in Ukanafun space of Akwa Ibom state.
It was gathered that the victim, one Otobong Sylvester Ukpong, was kidnapped on Tuesday morning whereas going to work.
The incident was mentioned to have occurred close to the Government Primary School, Oruk Ata2 alongside the Ukanafun-Azumini expressway.
βMy brother was kidnapped at Uruk Ata2, in the morning hours of Tuesday, June 5, 2018, on his way to work in his office at Ukanafun Local Government Area office of INEC,β the victimβs brother, Mbetobong Sylvester Ukpong, instructed reporters.
He mentioned his brotherβs captors have contacted the household, and are demanding N10 million as ransom.
βThey used my brotherβs phone number to call the family to disclose their ransom before they release him, but the elders of the family have told them such demand is outrageous for a largely peasant family to pay,β he additionally mentioned.
The police have but to touch upon the matter.
