Iran has constructed a new military base in Syria which is being used to store missile capable of striking all of Israel, it has been reported.
Satellite images from ImageSat International show the base, located eight miles north west of Damascus, with newly constructed hangars.
The base is being run by the Quds Force, the special operations arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard, according to intelligence experts who spoke to Fox News.
Iran has constructed a new base north west of Damascus in Syria which is being used to house short and medium-range ballistic missiles, it has been reported
The base has existed for some time (in 2013, left) but early this year saw a flurry of activity with new hangars added (right, in February this year)
The channel claimed the two hangars, which measure around30 yards by 20 yards, are being used to store short and medium-range missiles.
A base similar to the one revealed in these new satellite photos was built last year south of Damascus, before being destroyed in December by Israeli surface-to-surface missiles, Fox said.
The images emerged just weeks after Israel's U.N. ambassador warned that Iran is trying to turn Syria into 'the largest military base in the world'.
Danny Danon told the Security Council Thursday that classified information he was releasing showed that 82,000 fighters are currently under Iranian authority in Syria.
He stated the fighters include 60,000 Syrians, 9,000 members of Hezbollah, 3,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guard members and '10,000 members of violent Shia militias recruited from across the Middle East, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.'
The hangars are similar to those used to house missiles at other Iranian bases, according to a report published by Fox News
An Israeli jet was shot down earlier this month while attacking what the Jewish state stated were Iranian bases inside Syria
After the shooting down of its jet, Israel warned the UN that Iran is trying to turn Syria into 'the largest military base in the world'
The figures could not be independently confirmed, but Danon stated the Iranians 'speak about 100,000 troops under their control in Syria.'
In addition, he said, Iran is investing 'hundreds of millions of dollars' in Syria including on land and factories.
It also come after an Israeli warplane was shot down attacking what the Jewish state stated was Iranian targets inside Syria.
Israel accused Iran of flying a drone over its territory and stated the jets were scrambled to bomb Iranian targets in response.
While returning to base, one of the jets was shot down, marking the first loss of an Israeli jet in combat since the 1980s.
That prompted a multiple rounds of missile strikes by Israel on what it stated were more Iranian bases in Syria, before Russia President Vladimir Putin stepped in to calm a potentially dangerous new escalation in the war there.
