Richard Panik’s goal with 6:13 left sent the Islanders to a 5-4 loss to the Blackhawks Thursday night at Barclays Center, their third straight defeat and all of them when tied entering the third period.
The Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 3:48 in on goals by Andrew Ladd and Casey Cizikas.
But three Hawks goals in a 4:21 span erased that edge. Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov scored power-play goals and Marian Hossa scored off a turnover.
Ryan Strome’s deflected shot pulled the Isles even after the first period and Anders Lee’s deflection restored the Islanders lead just 24 seconds into the second.
But the Hawks’ perfect power play extended to 3-for-3 on Panarin’s second of the night with 18.7 seconds to go in the second, the sixth power-play goal the Islanders have allowed in the last three games.
The Islanders had a chance on the power play midway through the third with the game tied, but not only didn’t they get a shot on Scott Darling, Greiss had to make two saves to keep it tied.
