Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has reacted to a statement attributed to United States President Donald Trump describing President Muhammadu Buhari as a “lifeless” leader.
Ficial Times had reported on Monday that the United States President allegedly made the statement shortly after a meeting between the two leaders on April 30.
Famzn News recalls that the Nigerian leader, the first sub-Saharan Africa president to meet Trump since he was sworn in as the 45th American president, was in the United States for bilateral talks.
The meeting, according to the Newspaper, ended with Trump saying he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again.
Responding to the report, Sagay said he did not believe Trump could have made such “irresponsible comment”.
The PACAC Chairman alerted Nigerians to be wary of fake news being peddled on the social media.
He said: “How could the U.S. President say Buhari as lifeless? I don’t believe President Trump made such irresponsible comment. If the source of the comment in question is social media, I won’t waste time on it. It is all lies; it is fake news.
“I hardly react to fake news being peddled on social media. I don’t believe any right-thinking person would see President Muhammadu Buhari and say he is lifeless. Only a mad man would have made such comment being ascribed to the U.S. President.”
