Alex Iwobi has been ruled out of a possible England call-up after playing his first competitive match for Nigeria, the country of his birth.
The Lagos-born 19-year-old played for the Three Lions at several junior levels but opted to permanently represent the Super Eagles following his friendly appearance against DR Congo in November.
Nigeria manager Daniel Amokachi handed Iwobi his international debut with 10 minutes remaining in the 1-1 draw with Egypt at Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Friday and the youngster repaid his trust with an impressive cameo.
Iwobi had been in doubt for the contest after it had been confirmed the teenager missed training due to suffering from a minor bout of flu in the build-up to the tie.
The Arsenal forward made his first Premier League start away at Everton earlier this month and justified coach Arsene Wenger's decision with a well-taken goal in a 2-0 win.
Manchester City's Khelchi Iheanacho was another England-based attacker to make his debut in the Africa Cup of Nations Group G qualifier.
