The Jigawa State Police Command has successfully arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged vandalism and theft of electrical cables across Guri and Dutse Local Government Areas within the state. The operation led to the recovery of a high-tension cable from one of the suspects apprehended in Guri, while two others were taken into custody for the alleged theft of armoured cables at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI) in Dutse.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed these developments in a statement released on Saturday, 24th October 2026, from Dutse. According to the official statement, police operatives attached to the Guri Division arrested 23-year-old Abdullahi Maina, a resident of Fulatari Quarters in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State, on 21st October at approximately 9:30 am.
The suspect was reportedly found to be in possession of a high-tension cable, which he had concealed within a sack. The police have impounded the recovered cable for further investigative procedures, and efforts are currently underway to apprehend Maina's alleged accomplices.
In a separate but related incident, officers from the Dutse Division arrested two other suspects: Ahmed Garba, 20, and Abdullahi Garba, 25. Both individuals are residents of Jigawar Tsada town within the Dutse Local Government Area. The duo were apprehended at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse at around 3:00 am on the same day. The statement alleges that these suspects conspired to trespass onto the institute's premises and subsequently stole armoured cables.
All three suspects are currently in police custody as investigations proceed to fully establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and to determine if any other individuals were involved in the criminal activities. The Jigawa State Police Command indicated that once investigations are completed by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, the suspects will be formally arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
CP Tijjani Murtala, the Commissioner of Police for Jigawa State Command, reaffirmed the command's unwavering commitment to protecting public infrastructure and to vigorously combating acts of vandalism and theft throughout the state. He urged members of the public to maintain vigilance and to promptly report any suspicious activities to their nearest police station. The police also advised residents to actively support security agencies in their crucial mission to safeguard public facilities and essential infrastructure from criminal elements.
