Jose Reyes will lead off and play third base for the Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins, the team he left the Mets for via a megadeal after the 2011 season.
“I still don’t believe that I’m here again,” Reyes said after being activated and added to the Mets’ roster on Tuesday. “It feels like I’m home
.”
Wilmer Flores will be second base tonight.
Injured third baseman David Wright was placed on the 60-day disabled list, allowing for Reyes to be added to the Mets’ 40-man roster.
Reyes will wear No. 7 for the Mets, the same number he wore during his first stint with the franchise. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud previously wore No. 7 and will switch to No. 18, he said.
Reyes served 52 games for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic-violence policy after he was charged with assaulting his wife, Katherine Ramirez, at a Maui hotel in October — an incident in which he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a sliding-glass door. Ramirez suffered multiple injuries but the case was dropped when she declined to cooperate with the investigation.
Reyes was released by Colorado last month after serving his suspension, meaning the Rockies are on the hook for $38 million while the Mets take on a negligible financial commitment.
