Barely a month after a broadcast journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Akure, Tony Ogunkua succumbed to the cold hands of death through renal failure, another Akure-based journalist, Goke Adewinle of Newswatch magazine, is down with the same ailment.

Adewinle, who is in charge of Ondo and Ekiti states for the news magazine, has therefore, appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to save his life by donating between N5 million and N8 million that doctors stated he would need for a kidney transplant in India.

The reporter, who like the late Ogunkua had, for about two decades, covered the activities of the Ondo State government, which he also served as the Press Secretary to the wife of former Governor of Ondo State, Mrs. Olufunke Agagu, appealed to the state for help.

He told The Guardian from his sick bed at the Kidney Care Centre in Ondo Town, where he is undergoing dialysis twice a week on a weekly expense of N60, 000, that he didn’t know how he contracted the disease since he never drank alcohol or smoke.

In a letter dated March 23 and entitled “Save My Soul”, which he sent to the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko requesting for financial assistance, Adewinle wrote, “Your Excellency, I implore you to join hands with other good Nigerians and support me to survive the war against this kidney problem.”

He also pleaded with charitable organizations and kind-hearted Nigerians to assist him .His accounts details are: Goke Adewinle, First Bank account number 2005612730. He can be reached on 08184561141 or 08057915869.
