The Joint Task Force (JTF) operating with the code name “Operation Pulo Shield” has arrested an alleged notorious kidnapper terroriszing the Niger Delta region.
21 other suspects were also apprehended for offences ranging from kidnapping, sea-piracy to oil bunkering, The Sun reports.
Briefing journalists in Yenagoa, Lieutenant Colonel Isa Ado, the spokesman of JTF, said that the suspected kidnapper, identified as Presley Umukoro, was arrested in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta state.
As stated by Ado, Umukoro, who was involved in the abduction of one Mrs Ufoma James, was in the custody of JTF and was undergoing interrogation.
The spokesman added that the 21 others were arrested along Ughelli–Warri Road and in Orerokpe community in Ughelli North and Okpe local government areas of Delta state.
During the operation, soldiers recovered from the suspects rolls of stolen armoured cable, two circuit breakers, 12 cut-outs, two saw blades and bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Ado noted that the recovered items would be in the custody of JTF for preliminary investigation before handing them over to the prosecuting agencies.
