Liverpool’s players and staff usually convene at a city centre hotel prior to their home game, but the club realised mid-morning their manager would be unable to take charge.
Klopp showed no signs of discomfort during his pre-match media duties on Friday.
If appendicitis is confirmed, it remains to be seen how long Liverpool will be without their coach. Usually cases require surgery to remove the appendix as soon as possible, the recovery taking weeks.

After today's game, Liverpool's hectic schedule continues with an FA Cup replay against West Ham on Tuesday, and a trip to Aston Villa next weekend.
