Kano State Government has declared Wednesday, October 14, as public holiday to mark the new Islamic year.
Notice of the holiday is contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Baba Dantiye, the Director-General, Media and Communications to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and made available to newsmen in Kano today.
Governor Ganduje was quoted in the statement as congratulating the people of the state and Muslims the world over, for witnessing the new year.
The statement said Governor Ganduje had appealed to Kano citizens to utilise the holiday to offer prayers for peace and prosperity of the country.
It said the governor had reassured the people of the state government’s determination to work hard toward improving their living standards and pledged to continue to give priority attention to both formal and non formal education in the state.
October 14 (tomorrow), is the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calender and marks the new Islamic year 1437 after hijra.
