The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully apprehended two suspects in connection with the alleged theft of railway materials. The arrests were made in Kanwa Village, located within the Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State.
Mohammed Hassan Agalama, the State Commandant, confirmed the operation, stating that 50 railway sleeper clips were recovered from the individuals taken into custody. However, a significant number of 205 other clips remain missing.
The suspects have been identified as Shamsu Isyaku, aged 25, from Kanwa Village, and Shehu Yakubu, aged 40, from Kanwa Yamma. Both areas are situated within the Madobi LGA. Commandant Agalama indicated that Isyaku is believed to be the primary orchestrator of the theft, while Yakubu is implicated in the receipt and purchase of the stolen materials.
Investigations are actively underway to locate and recover the outstanding missing clips and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved in this criminal enterprise. Another suspect, identified as Saleh Kanwa, is currently at large.
The commandant issued a stern warning to anyone engaged in the illicit activity of stealing and trading railway materials, affirming that they will be met with the full force of the law. He also urged members of the public to provide valuable information to security agencies. Such cooperation is crucial in apprehending the fleeing suspect and in safeguarding Nigeria's critical national infrastructure.
