Kano University VC Welcomes Emir of Sumaila
Professor Abdulrashid Garba, the Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) in Kano, Nigeria, recently hosted the Emir of Sumaila, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Dan Sumaila, for a courtesy visit to discuss the university's progress and reaffirm its commitment to quality education.
During his visit to Professor Garba's office on Monday, the Sarkin Sumaila extended his congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment as the inaugural VC of the university. He also commended the remarkable strides and progress the institution has achieved under his leadership in a relatively short period.
A statement released by Bilal Dahiru Tijjani, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing for the university, quoted the Emir offering prayers for the sustained growth and ongoing success of the institution within the community and beyond.
University's Commitment to Education
In response, Professor Abdulrashid expressed his appreciation for the Emir's visit and his kind words. He highlighted that the university highly values the support and goodwill extended by community leaders and various stakeholders. The Vice-Chancellor further reaffirmed KHAIRUN's unwavering commitment to delivering excellent education and making positive contributions to society.
Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University was established and named in honour of Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, a distinguished Islamic scholar, shrewd businessman, and notable philanthropist from Kano. His lifelong dedication to learning and intellectual pursuits laid the philosophical groundwork for the university's creation.
Expanding Higher Education in Northern Nigeria
The establishment of KHAIRUN stems from a strategic vision to broaden access to quality higher education, particularly within northern Nigeria. This region has historically faced intense competition for limited university places, often leaving many aspiring students without vital opportunities to pursue their academic goals.
