A weeklong healthcare activities to enable mothers access free maternal and child services has been flagged off in Birnin Kebbi by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
The programme has been designed to promote, prevent and provide curative health care service in its health facilities for women and children in the state.
The programme which has been tagged 'Maternal, Neonatal and Child Week' is aimed at ensuring every mother and child enjoy access to necessary medical services that would be provided to reduce morbidity and mortality among women and children under five years.
Governor Bagudu assured people of the state at the flag off ceremony that his government would continue to work assiduously to reduce the poor health indices of the state by effectively managing health institutions to meet the health needs of the people.
“Over the years we have observed that the budgetary allocation to the health sector and donor ficing of health programmes in the health sector are inefficient to turn around the health fortune of the health sector unless there is sound management of the resources and political will,“ Bagudu stated.
The governor also pledged to increase budgetary allocations to the Health Ministry in order increase capacity building of health personnel, support fully the school of Nursing to become a major health centre where others will come to copy.
Highlights of the event included Health education on key household practice which included hand washing, administering vitamin A supplementation to children , deworming , Iron folate to women , immunisation , birth registration and distribution of mosquito nets.
