Eleven suspected fake workers of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWSIRS) have been arrested. But only four of them would be prosecuted, as seven others have been released for want of concrete evidence against them.
As stated by the Chief Executive Officer of KWSIRS, Dr. Murtalar Awodun, the apprehended four suspects would be prosecuted in court this week.
Awodun, while speaking with The Guardian in Ilorin yesterday said some senior old staff of the dissolved of internal revenue board are suspected to be behind illegal revenue collection from unsuspecting victims.
He said: “One of the greatest challenges of the KWSIRS is how to get some of the old staff of the revenue collection board to hands off their illegal operations. We have discovered some of them who are still pilfering government’s money. They are doing it under cover.
“We got some of them arrested recently and they will soon be charged to court. They were illegally collecting revenue from some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).”
