Swimming Worried by the falling standard of swimming in Nigeria, newly appointed chairperson of FCT Swimming Association, Maryam Damisa, has picked lack of facilities and the absence of developmental programmes as the bane of the sport.

She explained that the poor administrative system in swimming has also affected awareness of the sport in Abuja, adding that the sport will only grow if those charged with controlling it developed sustainable programmes.

Speaking during her inauguration as FCT swimming association boss, Damisa promised that swimmers in Abuja would soon begin to represent Nigeria in international tournaments through the efforts of her board.

She disclosed that the board would fashion out a programme for the discovery and training of young swimmers, who would be nurtured to stardom.

“I am delighted to be the chairperson of FCT Swimming Federation and my goal is to help organise competitions for FCT swimmers to improve their skills. Swimming is a recreational sport that is good for people living in tropical climate like Nigeria,” she said.
