• Ooni Ogunwusi
One of the three aggrieved Ruling Houses in Ile-Ife, Osun State that kicked against the emergence the Ooni-elect, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has called for cease fire.
Recall that Lafogido Ruling House had last week kicked against the emergence of the Ooni-elect and later filed a suit against Ife kingmakers as well the Osun State Government. But the Head of Sookos from the Lafogido Ruling House, Chief Adeleke Adewoyin yesterday assured the people of Ife that the family was withdrawing the suit as well as ready to work with the Ooni-elect.
He said since Prince Ogunwusi had been duly selected and appointed, including the Ifa Oracle and the commencement of necessary traditional ritesi, the family had no choice than to work with him.
Adewoyin, who was former Osun State Deputy Governor during the Chief Adebisi Akande’s administration, also noted that the ruling house’s poise for cooperation with the new Ooni was against the backdrop of government’s declaration that the litigation in court did no longer hold waters.
While canvassing peace among all royal families in the town, he said: “Since the state government said that we are late in our agitation, we have no option than to work with the new Ooni in the interest of peace and progress of our land.
“There is a popular saying in Ile-Ife that it is against the Ife tradition to fight against Ooni. If you fight against a sitting Ooni, you bear the consequences.”
He therefore declared that the Lafogido ruling house had advised their lawyer to withdraw the suit from the court for peace to reign among Ife people noting that the initial intention of the ruling house was to seek the intervention of the state government and other stakeholders to correct the lopsidedness in the rotational of Ooni throne.
However, he lamented that the Lafogido Ruling House had suffered age-long marginalisaion and called on government to look into the Ife Chieftaincy Declaration to avoid further litigation in future.
