The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Communities, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, who disclosed this at a news conference said out of the 148 street gates earmarked for demolition across the state, 84 of them had been pulled down for failing to abide by government’s instruction to leave them open till midnight.
“This is being done to improve security, free flow of traffic, and safety of lives and property of all citizens in the state.”
He warned landlords, who normally lock their street gates before midnight to desist from such as government would demolish such gates .
Bamigbetan said government was working round the clock to reduce conflict within the communities, particularly relating to activities of land-grabbers and judgment-creditors, who are wont to takeover ownership forcefully and violently.
Harping on the construction of 114 roads across all 57 local councils in Lagos, Folami hinted that the roads would be completed by the end of June, noting that the roads were constructed by the councils, under state government’s supervision.
“The ministry supervised the construction of 114 standard local council access roads with covered drains, walkways and street lights on the basis of two per local council with an average length of 665 meters, which are at more than 48 per cent completion as at the time of reporting.”
