Philipp Lahm has revealed he and his Bayern Munich team-mates were left shocked by Holger Badstuber's latest injury setback.

The defender suffered a broken ankle in training prior to Bayern's clash with Augsburg, which has ruled him out of action for at least the next three months.

His latest problem comes after he spent the previous two years recovering from anterior cruciate ligament knee injuries and numerous other niggles and knocks.

And Lahm has told Goal that the incident left a cloud of sadness over the squad despite their 3-1 victory on Sunday.

He said: "We were all shocked. It was immediately clear that it was something serious. The atmosphere in the evening and also on the bus was one of deep sadness."

Badstuber remained remarkably upbeat after finding out the severity of his latest injury and posted a tweet promising to come back stronger than before.

Lahm continued: "If someone has to fight so often against injuries and give well in excess of one hundred percent, it is very, very bitter when he then has to accept another setback

"I hope that he can again come back as he did after his recent injury."
