Sergio Ramos netted a towering header in the first half, and Zinedine Zidane's men once again relied on their set-piece strength to pull through after Willian Jose's equaliser
A seemingly routine victory for Real Madrid took a thrilling turn towards the end, as Casemiro's last-gasp strike finally put down Las Palmas in a 2-1 victory.
The hosts were never over-awed by their illustrious opponents and tested Keylor Navas on several occasions, but Zinedine Zidane's men nevertheless took the lead in the first half when Sergio Ramos netted a towering header.
Willian Jose then appeared to secure a point for the Canary Islanders when he broke free with just minutes on the clock, and delicately lifted the ball over Navas for the equalisers.
But Madrid stood firm, and Casemiro struck from a late set-piece to finally settle the game in the Blancos' favour.
