LASTMA officers
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has denied detaining some pupils of Eucharistic Heart of Jesus School, Isolo, after the varsity bus driver and college students had been allegedly arrested for violating the state site visitors legislation.
It was learnt that the bus driver had penultimate Wednesday gone to select up pupils of the varsity at their homes within the Isolo space of the state.
He had reportedly picked up two pupils within the neighbourhood when he was accosted by two LASTMA officers, who accused him of not utilizing a seat belt.
As said by the Punch, the steering of the Sienna bus was taken over by one of many officers, who drove to the company’s yard at Isolo.
The pupils had been reportedly held for over three hours and had been launched after their dad and mom went for them.
The car was allegedly launched to the varsity proprietor after an enterprise was signed.
A mother or father, Ikem Okuhu, whose children had been within the car on the time, mentioned the encounter traumatised his youngsters.
In a petition to the Lagos state Ministry of Transport, Okuhu mentioned his youngsters had been launched after his spouse visited the LASTMA yard, including that the officers insulted the girl and requested her to go to courtroom if she felt her youngsters had been ill-treated.
Okuhu’s lawyer, Nnamdi Nwonyishi, who wrote the petition, dated June 6, 2018, copied the General Manager of LASTMA and the Officer-in-Charge of LASTMA, Isolo.
The lawyer demanded that the officers be disciplined, along with an apology and cost of N5m for normal damages.
Nwonyishi threatened that if the calls for of N5m, an apology and sanction for the officers weren't met, the case could be taken to courtroom.
The Public Affairs Officer of LASTMA, Mahmud Hassan, mentioned though he doubted that a faculty bus was concerned within the incident, the company would examine the allegations.
He mentioned, “We have a observe that once we encounter the weak and the weak on a bus, most particularly faculty buses, if the motive force run afoul of the legislation, we permit him to proceed to wherever he's going and we ship the ticket to the proprietor of the bus or location of the varsity. We don’t impound a faculty bus with youngsters in it. When we encounter them like that, it's on the discretion of the officer to permit them to go.
“However, in this particular instance, I have a serious doubt that a school bus was involved. But we will do our own investigation. We have inculcated it in our officers that when they see school buses, even if the driver committed an offence, they should allow him to go. We treat the weak and vulnerable with respect; we don’t allow the action of a driver to affect them negatively.”
