The Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has stated that the defection of lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not affect the chances of the party in the 2019 elections.
Fayemi, who spoke on Tuesday at the APC national secretariat after a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said the party will repeat its success in Ekiti in the coming election in Osun State and during the February 16, 2019 presidential election.
The former minister of mines and steel development also hailed the leadership of Oshiomhole.
He said: “Whether he is chairman of party, president of labour congress or state governor, he has demonstrated his leadership capacity without doubt. He is clearly a man for the job.
“He has been delivering to the best of his ability and that is why he got the first victory in Ekiti State with another one on the way in Osun state before we cap it up with total success in February 16, 2019,” he said about Oshiomhole after the meeting.”
“What the defection signifies to the party is that it is democracy in action. It does not portend any danger to our party. Democracy is not an event, it is a process.
“It is wrong to take an isolated event and come to a conclusion about an issue. As one door shuts, some other doors will open. I urge you to stay tuned,” he also said on the latest development from the National Assembly.
