Italy icon Maldini made light work of West Germany's Franz Beckenbauer in the last 16, but it was a much closer affair for Real Madrid's Ronaldo. The Portugal international looked certain to lose to ex-Brazil star Ronaldo until overtaking his namesake in the final hour of voting.
