Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has admitted the form of his Borussia Dortmund rival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang motivated him to up his game this season.

Lewandowski, with 29 goals, is in line to be named the Bundesliga's top scorer heading into the final round of fixtures ahead of Aubameyang, who has scored 25 times.

The Gabon international led the way earlier in the season, netting 18 before the winter break, but Lewandowski has overtaken him as Bayern have sealed a fourth title in a row.

"To score 18 goals in the first half of the season is an amazing performance," Lewandowski told Goal.

"During the winter break, when I had three goals fewer, I thought [Aubameyang] would maintain these performances in the second half of the season.

"I knew it would be hard but I thought: 'Now I have to go on, the second half of the season is also very important.'

"When I saw that he scored a goal, my motivation increased. At the moment I have 29 goals.

"Nevertheless, I was always focused on myself. I never looked directly after our game to see if Pierre scored one or two goals. I was focused on my game.

"No matter if I scored or not, I always thought: 'I have to try to score again in the next game. I have to score as many goals as possible.' I've thought this way for the whole season.

"Now I have the chance to win the goalscoring trophy. I could become the only foreign player to score 30 goals or more in one season."

The 27-year-old admits being crowned the Bundesliga's leading marksman would be the perfect way to cap off another successful season.

Costa: Pep is the best coach I've ever had

"If I can win the top-scorer trophy for the second time I would be very happy," he said. "That's an individual award for a striker.

"This season was very, very good for me. I hope that I will score one more goal and finish the season with 30 goals. That would be a very good performance.

"We still have one game in Munich and it would be good to win this last game of the season at home to celebrate with the fans and the team afterwards.

"To be champions four times in a row is a big story. No team has done this before. And also for me personally it is the fourth Bundesliga trophy.

"We can have a very nice time. Then next week we'll have the cup final and I hope we can celebrate with the fans also."
