The Barcelona forward reveals that he used to try and emulate the Argentina legend, who is still seven goals ahead of Lionel Messi for the national team
Luis Suarez has revealed that former Argentina striker Gabriel Batistuta is the striker he looked up to during the early stages of his career.
The former Fiorentina and Roma striker scored 184 goals in 318 games and remains the all-time leading scorer for the Argentina national team with 56 goals - seven ahead of Messi who has 27 more caps.
“The ultimate? Gabriel Batistuta,” the Barcelona forward told The Daily Mail.
“He was a spectacular No 9 - great at finding space, shooting from outside the box, good in the air.
“He was always a reference for me and I used to watch the way he played. He took free-kicks as well. I don’t get to take them here! But I’d copy him and watch videos of him all the time.”
