Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed the club have received a bid from Sunderland for midfielder Clement Grenier.

Grenier, 25, missed a large part of last season due to a groin injury, starting just 10 games in Ligue 1.

After keeping Sunderland in the Premier League last season, Sam Allardyce is yet to add his squad ahead of the new campaign.

But Aulas claims Lyon have received an offer for Grenier from the Black Cats, though an unnamed Italian club are also in the market for the Frenchman.

“Grenier was not expected to be here for the coming season,” Aulas told Canal+.

“There has been an offer from Sunderland and an Italian club.”

Grenier, who is known for his excellent set-pieces, netted a fine free-kick in Saturday’s 2-2 friendly draw against Ligue 2 side FC Bourg-Peronnas.

Aulas has also confirmed that in-demand striker Alexandre Lacazette is set to stay at Lyon this summer. - Goal
