The sleepy Umunkpume Orba community, Udenu Local Council of Enugu State was yesterday thrown into mourning following the death of a 22-year-old man, said to have hanged himself in a bush.
Akabuike Onyedika, a bricklayer and an indigene of Isiukwuato in Abia State, according to the police, was found with ropes around his neck on a cashew tree, during a search by security agents.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said yesterday that the deceased was said to have left his residence last Tuesday and never returned, leading to the constitution of a search party by relatives and neighbours.
He stated that the police were alerted and that their involvement in the search led to the discovery of the mangled his body dangling on the tree.
Amaraizu explained that the body had been recovered and deposited at the hospital morgue, while a full-scale investigation has commenced on the incident.
