A 24-year-old unemployed man, Deji Senayan, was arraigned yesterday at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for stealing a goat.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that Senayan committed the offence at Ajara Vetho area of Badagry.
Ikem said the goat belonged to Mrs Mausi Tapanu.
He explained that “the goat was walking on the road when Senayan appeared from nowhere and took it away.
“When he was caught, he said he thought the goat was nobody’s own and he wanted to kill it and make pepper soup.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code, Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 and one surety in like sum.
Adefioye then adjourned the case until May 23 for further hearing.
