A Kenyan man had on Tuesday arrested his wife for reportedly abandoning and refusing to breastfeed their infant over breastfeeding fee.
The man identified as Charles Kiiri, 36, said over a week ago, his wife Faith Nyokabi, 25, neglected their four-month-old baby and refused to return home unless he pays her Ksh. 100,000 in cash for breastfeeding their baby.
He told newsmen that on August 1, he was informed that his wife had absconded, leaving only the infant in the house.
Kiiri said, he rushed home and found the baby with neighbors who told him that the baby had been abandoned as soon as he left for work.
He revealed further that he pleaded with her to return home but she informed him that he mother had taken her to a local hospital where she was injected with a drug, to dry out her breast milk.
After exhausting his options and patience, the aggitted man reported her to the authorities to intervene.
Thika Children’s Officer, Lina Mwangi advised the father to look for a temporary caregiver.
Mwangi revealed also that the woman has been arrested and would be charged with child neglect and denying a child protection.
