The Spain winger says the outgoing City boss "will always have" the support of his players, and that he hopes they can beat Liverpool at Wembley as a leaving present

Jesus Navas saysΒ Manchester City are gunning to win Sunday's League Cup final for outgoing boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean, who won the competition along with the Premier League title in his first season in English football, will be replaced by Pep Guardiola this summer.

And Navas, who was brought to the club by Pellegrini in 2013, says all the players are still firmly behind their manager, despite claims that the announcement about his future has had a destabilising effect.

"We're with him because he's given us everything," he said. "In his first year he won two very important titles and he's working very well with us. He'll always have our support."

Asked whether he wants to win the trophy for Pellegrini, the winger added: "Yes, above all because it was the first cup that he won here and it would be very important for us and for him to win another trophy.

"All he's done is contribute positive things and that's very good."

Sunday's opponents Liverpool inflicted a damaging 4-1 defeat on City at the Etihad Stadium back in November.

Navas, who has recovered from a hamstring injury and is contention for Sunday, says key errors at important times proved costly that day, but he believes the confidence in the squad following Wednesday's Champions League win in Kiev will help to focus minds.

"I think we really need to be focused and be really on it during the game for the whole 90 minutes," he added.

"We realised that at one or two key times in the game at home there were one or two errors made at key times.

"We’re very mindful of the fact we don’t want to repeat that. We’ve learned from that and hopefully from the confidence that we’ve got currently we’ll be able to have a really concentrated effort on Sunday."

Sergio Aguero scored City's consolation goal that day on his first game back from six-week injury lay-off, and Navas believes the Argentine will be crucial when the two sides meet again at Wembley.

The striker has scored 10 goals in his last 11 appearances and Navas says he is one of the best in the business.

"The best always do damage and score goals and that's very important, every time the ball drops he's there to convert it. He's one of the best forwards there are."

"I see him train and he always makes scoring look very easy and that's very important."
