One Johnson Ajayi, a student of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education in Oyo State has been arrested by the police for alleged attempted murder of his sister to avoid the repayment of a debt of N47,000.
As stated by reports, Ajayi slit the throat of his sister, Sarah Ajala, a student of Ekiti State University, Ado- Ekiti and then ran away before he was arrested at a house where he was hiding.
Confessing to the crime when he was paraded at the Eleyele Headquarters, of the Police in Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday, the suspect said that Sarah had threatened to report him to the family if he didn’t pay her back the debt.
As stated by him, “when I spent my sister's money, I had no money and means of paying her back, so I went to her house, entered her room, strangled her and slit her throat with a knife, then I ran away to my house, thinking she was dead”.
Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Katsina said that the victim, Sarah Ajala “is presently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and is getting better.
“It is quiet unfortunate that a man would do such a terrible thing to his own relative, this goes to show the level of moral decadence in our society, but, it is gladdening to say that the victim, Miss Ajala is presently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital and information reaching us says she is responding to treatment”, he stated.
