According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the club’s Under-17 squad named City teenagers Edward Elewa-Ikpakwu and Ellis Simms on the bench against Everton after the duo were handed trials.

The pair both came off the bench in the 3-1 victory, with Elewa-Ikpakwu playing at centre-back and Simms on the left wing.

Both players have represented England at youth levels, and could now be set to swap the Etihad Stadium’s youth academy for United’s.

Jose Mourinho’s side have embarked on a major recruitment drive in recent months, signing six young prospects – including the likes of DJ Buffonge and Tahith Chong – to bolster their ranks.

The last player to rise through the ranks at United was Marcus Rashford, with the striker rising to the first-team after joining the club as a seven-year-old. Rashford has scored a total of 13 goals for the senior squad, and has also been capped by England.
