Liverpool supporters will be treated to a first glimpse of three of the club’s new signings, with Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Loris Karius all starting against Tranmere.
Marko Grujic, also recruited ahead of 2016-17, is ineligible for the Reds’ first pre-season game at Prenton Park as he needs to leave then re-enter the country for his recently-secured work permit to take effect.
Mario Balotelli is not included in the squad as his Liverpool spell edges closer to an end, while fellow returnee Lazar Markovic is named on the bench.
Ovie Ejaria, who joined the club in the summer of 2014, makes his debut. The 18-year-old has impressed in training and will line up in central midfield.
Regular starters Dejan Lovren and Roberto Firmino both feature alongside Liverpool’s longest-serving player Lucas.
Jon Flanagan, who began training before the squad were due to report back for the start of pre-season as he sharpens his fitness, is also in the first 11.
Friday evening’s workout - the first of nine friendlies Liverpool have lined up this summer - comes hours after Jurgen Klopp signed a new six-year deal with the club.
