The 1986 World Cup winner sent his condolences, as did El Mariscal's former clubs and colleagues after learning the defensive great passed on after suffering an aneurysm
Legendary Argentina defender Roberto Perfumo has passed away at the age of 73, after suffering a fall in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Perfumo, who represented Racing Club, River Plate and Brazil's Cruzeiro during a glittering playing career, was admitted to hospital after falling down the stairs at a restaurant in Buenos Aires.
He was in critical condition after suffering an aneurysm and serious head injuries, and passed away later the same day due to the severity of his injuries.
Diego Maradona led the tributes to the late Argentina idol, expressing that he "could not believe it" on his official Facebook page.
No lo puedo creer. Hasta siempre, Mariscal...

The great's former clubs also paid their respects, as did his colleagues at Ole and Futbol para Todos, where he worked as a journalist and commentator.
Perfumo was released by River as a teenager, and moved on to Primera Division rivals Racing where he quickly established himself as one of the finest defenders in South America.
Nicknamed 'El Mariscal' (The Marshal), he lifted the Copa Libertadores in 1967 and was a key part of La Academia's Intercontinental Cup victory over Celtic, making the club the first Argentina team to be crowned world champions.
The defender later moved to Cruzeiro, where he masterminded three consecutive Mineiro State Championship wins.
Back at River in the twilight of his career, he helped Angel Labruna's team end an 18-year title drought with the 1975 Metropolitano crown - one of three league triumphs he would experience in as many years at the Monumental.
Perfumo also played for the Argentina national team on 37 occasions, and was ever-present at both the 1966 and 1974 World Cups.
