Mexico Cartel Violence Erupts After Leader Killed

Widespread violence and unrest have swept across parts of Mexico following a military operation on Sunday in the western state of Jalisco, which resulted in the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho", leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The country's military killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, famously known as "El Mencho", who led the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. This criminal organisation had previously been labelled as a foreign terrorist entity by the US President Donald Trump's administration.

Following the military operation in the western state of Jalisco, officials confirmed El Mencho's death on Sunday. In the hours that ensued, reports and videos quickly emerged, detailing widespread retaliatory attacks across various parts of Mexico.

The violence included numerous roadblocks where vehicles were set ablaze, intense shoot-outs, and deliberate arson attacks on petrol stations. These incidents are widely believed to be the immediate response from members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to the killing of their leader.
