Microsoft has acquired SwiftKey, a company that built an intuitive keyboard for iOS and Android (however, not Windows Phone) devices, according to a new report today.
Microsoft paid around $250 million to do the deal and is set to announce it afterwards this week, the Financial Times said.
The deal follows a string of other acquisitions of modern apps, including Acompli, MileIQ, Sunrise, and Wunderlist.
SwiftKey announced a $17.5 million funding round in 2013. Investors include Accel Partners, Index Ventures, and Octopus Investments. The company started in 2008 and had offices in London, San Francisco, and Seoul.
SwiftKey is installed on 300 million mobile devices, according to the company’s website. OnePlus, Samsung, and Xiaomi have partnered with SwiftKey in the past, the site says.
Several of SwiftKey’s 150-plus employees will join Microsoft Research, the Financial Times reported.
