Jose Mourinho claims he has told Manchester Unitedβs owners that he is aiming to win the Premier League title in his first season at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has joined on a three-year deal and has boosted Unitedβs chances of ending their three-year wait for a league title with the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, along with defender Eric Bailly.
And while he has been told by the Glazers that there is no pressure on him to win a trophy in his debut campaign, Mourinho is adamant that he will not just settle for a place in the top four.
βNo ultimatum. No demands. Just tranquillity to play and work my three-year contract,β Mourinho told The Sun.

βThe message from the owners and Mr Woodward was this β βGet your three years, do your work, improve the team and bring us back where we belong during a three-year periodβ.
βMy message was that I wanted to win the title in the first season.
βI want to be champion. To say before the season starts that the top four is the target? The top four is not the target. We want to play to be champions.
βIf during the season we realise the points difference doesnβt allow us to fight for the title, we are going to establish a new title and when you canβt be champion the next target is to finish top four.
βBut day one, I donβt want to hide behind a bad season or no Champions League football to say we want to finish top four.β
