Mozambican Prime Minister (PM), Agostinho do Rosario said yesterday that Mozambique will cooperate with regional countries to stop crimes committed against albino citizens particularly in the north of the country.
“To stop this crime, we will involve every family, active voices of the society, communities, church and local leaders. The government will cooperate with other regional countries to guarantee that all albino citizens enjoy their rights,” said the PM.
The issue over albinos started to worry the authorities after a few reports of albino citizens disappearing in the northern region of the country, namely in Nampula province.
The phenomenon is allegedly influenced by beliefs from the neighboring Tanzania, where albino organs can heal diseases as well as to make people become rich.
Last week, the country’s Attorney General, Beatriz Buchili, visited the northern region, promising double efforts to stop the kidnapping of albinos in Mozambique.
