LANDOVER, MD — Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson and center Nick Mangold won’t play against the Redskins. But Matt Forte is active.
It’s unlikely, though, that the 30-year-old running back will see preseason action tonight after only making his camp debut on Sunday.
But the sight of Forte in uniform will be a welcome sign for fans who have been eager to see his return from a hamstring injury. He’s been making steady progress in his rehab and participated in team drills for the first time on Wednesday.
Wilkerson has been getting 11-on-11 reps in practice after his recent activation off the PUP list (broken leg). But it’s unclear whether the Jets’ star will play at all in the preseason. The organization is determined to be cautious with his recovery.
Mangold didn’t participate in their last two practices, but according to Bowles, they were just rest days.
In all, eight players are inactive for the Jets. In addition to Wilkerson and Mangold, Romar Morris (shoulder), Dominique Williams (concussion), Doug Middleton (leg), Wes Saxton (leg),
Devin Smith (PUP - ACL) and Breno Giacomini (PUP - back).
