MultiChoice has revealed plans to automatically migrate its active DStv and GOtv subscribers to newly structured packages commencing 5th November 2026, with no supplementary charges incurred for this transition. This significant development signals a comprehensive overhaul of the pay-television services offered by the company.

The announcement was made during a press conference hosted by the company at its Victoria Island headquarters in Lagos, where Chief Executive Officer Kemi Omotosho presented a comprehensive restructuring of its pay-television offerings across its various African markets.

The updated DStv subscription tiers now comprise Starter, Select, Sports, and Premium, while GOtv customers will be offered a choice of four packages: Easy, Starter, Select, and Sports. According to MultiChoice, these revisions are integral to its 'DStv Expect More' campaign, which aims to streamline its subscription model and provide enhanced value to its clientele.

DStv Migration Paths And Value Proposition

Under the new migration plan, current DStv Access subscribers will be transitioned to the new Starter package. Similarly, Family subscribers will move to the Select tier, Compact subscribers to the Sports package, and Compact Plus subscribers will be upgraded to the Premium offering. The company has assured customers that every subscriber migrated under this scheme will retain access to at least the content available on their former package, with some individuals potentially gaining access to an expanded selection of channels.

Subscribers who have already paid for multiple months in advance will continue on their existing packages until their pre-paid subscription periods reach their expiry dates. Ms. Omotosho conveyed to journalists: "What we will state is that you will not receive less than what you have paid for. Therefore, at a minimum, you will obtain the value you initially purchased." She further indicated that MultiChoice is currently assessing the possibility of offering additional content to prepaid subscribers, although a definitive decision on this matter is yet to be made.

New Package Pricing And Content Highlights

The monthly subscription tariffs for the revamped DStv structure are set as follows: Starter at ₦6,000, Select at ₦11,000, Sports at ₦21,000, and Premium at ₦44,500. Consequently, this promotion enables subscribers on lower-tier packages to access content valued at up to ₦44,500, while only incurring a renewal cost of ₦21,000. This provides a significant boost in content value for many customers.

MultiChoice Nigeria's Senior Vice President of Communications, Tope Oshunkeye, affirmed that the new packages would encompass updated sports and entertainment programming. The dedicated SuperSport KICKOFF channel is scheduled to broadcast a curated selection of football fixtures, notably featuring the Premier League Match of the Week and certain UEFA Champions League encounters. The Sports package grants comprehensive access to all Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches, while those subscribed to the Premium tier will also enjoy extensive coverage of Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis, and golf, as reported by PremiumTimes.

Regarding entertainment, M-Net Movies+ will now amalgamate the content previously offered on the M-Net Movies 1 and M-Net Movies 2 channels. Concurrently, Africa Magic Family has undergone a rebranding and will now be known as Africa Magic+. Ms. Omotosho explained that the extensive overhaul was necessitated by the company's acknowledgement that its preceding subscription framework required substantial modifications.

Strategic Context And Future Streaming Plans

She further elaborated that MultiChoice intends to introduce any new streaming product only after pinpointing the most suitable technology, thereby indicating that the company retains its streaming ambitions. This strategic shift follows a period of restructuring for MultiChoice. It is worth noting that MultiChoice had previously discontinued its GOtv Stream mobile application, a service that allowed subscribers to view selected GOtv channels on their phones and tablets, as reported earlier by Legit.ng. A notification prominently displayed on the GOtv Stream website officially confirmed this closure, advising customers to revert to using their standard television decoders for content access. The application has since been removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
