The intensive search for two legal professionals who mysteriously vanished during a fishing trip off the coast of Florida has officially been called off after days yielded no signs of life. Uncle and nephew, Randal Spivey and Brandon Billmaier, embarked on their fishing excursion last Friday, but failed to return to shore by 7:30 p.m. that evening, triggering a frantic search and a deepening crime investigation.
The Disappearance and Discovery of the Abandoned Vessel
Following their failure to return, an urgent search operation was launched. The US Coast Guard later located their boat floating approximately 70 miles offshore. In a perplexing turn of events, the vessel was found with its engine still running, yet both men were conspicuously absent. The discovery of the abandoned boat, without any trace of the experienced fishermen, has intensified the mystery surrounding their whereabouts and the circumstances of their unexplained disappearance.
FBI Initiates Missing Persons Case Amid Unusual Circumstances
With the search efforts concluded by the Coast Guard, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has now officially taken over the investigation, classifying it as a missing persons case. Former FBI agent Richard Kolko commented on the unusual nature of the incident, particularly given that the men vanished beyond the territorial limits of the U.S. coast. The involvement of the FBI Investigation underscores the gravity and complexity of the situation, as authorities seek to piece together what transpired during their fateful Boating Accident trip.

Family's Heartfelt Plea for Compassion and Respect
In a poignant statement, the families of Randal Spivey and Brandon Billmaier expressed their profound grief and respect for the exhaustive search efforts. They highlighted the men's professional dedication: "Randy was an attorney helping those who were injured for over 30 years. Likewise, following in his uncle’s footsteps, Brandon was also an attorney advocating for those who were injured as well." The family further conveyed their understanding that "everything possible has been done" by the search teams and appealed for privacy during this "unimaginably difficult time." The two men are described as: Spivey, 6'1”, with brown hair and eyes, last seen in khaki pants and a dark-colored shirt; Billmaier, 6'2”, with strawberry blonde hair and brown eyes.
